What’s up everyone? Hope my post finds everyone in good health. We had a great time down in Lake Charles last weekend. It was definitely a trip for the ages. First off I would like to thank Sunrise Kills and Colorcast Veteran for an incredibly fun eve of rock. As soon as we got to 710, it was a rush to load in and get ready to play. Even though the drive was a little draining (which I slept most of the way), we were all stoked to take the stage. So we took the stage, and blew it up. It was the first time we opened a show with “Cold and Alone” Which in my opinion seemed to go over very well. The LC crowd was very responsive; and to much of our delight, the front row was filled with nice looking ladies. Once we did our thing, we tore down and got ready to bang with Sunrise Kills. This crowd was very energetic, so even offstage it was a rush for me. But I wouldn’t be offstage long, as Ronald and I took the stage half clad in a tuxedo. It literally seemed as if we were onstage all night, even when colorcast took the stage we joined in on there fun. It was GREAT. So after the show, it’s back to Rono’s crib for the after party. We were gonna go gator hunting, but the boats were broken. We packed it in and decided to check the “Space” to see our response, and to our suprise we had an incredible new myspace. You’d think it was done by professionals (wait, it was) SO anyways we pimped it out to everyone in the house. It made us feel really good. Well, in my drunken journey, i came across some steps, with my toe!!! Yep Broke the nail right off of my nasty Bastard foot. It was nasty!!! I showed everyone. SO the next day we got up, well they got up(I slept) Rono and Tyler went and got crawfish and it was on. We put down about 60 lbs of mudbugs. Hell Yeah! By this time we were ready to hit the road as we all had a descent drive ahead of us. So thanks to all of our new friends in LC, and everyone else who made this trip so much fun.
Speaking of the myspace… Thanks to Josh, Jose, Kiehl, Octavia, Casey, and everyone else involved with Every Angle. Looks Great Guys!!! www.myspace.com/sweetlakemafia
Hope everyone can make it to the Olive Street Show this Saturday Night, It’sa gonna be fun! Until then…. Ever heard of BADASS!!!!
Just giving you guys an update on what we’ve been up to out on the West Coast. Sorry it took a little while to post but we’ve been BUSY!!
Everything has been going GREAT! This last trip was by far the most productive trip the band has ever had. Here’s a recap since we were too busy to blog as it was happening:
Day 1: The Trip There
We left Monroe at 8:30 am, the weather was horrible. Worse flight I’ve ever been on. The lady accross the aisle from me puked in the air sickness bag without realizing there was a hole in it. I thought the stewardess was gonna lose her breakfast too when she saw it, but she held her own.
Landed in Houston, jumped on another flight that was much better, though the weather still sucked. Made it to LAX by the early afternoon, got to the studio and met up with all of our people at Every Angle Music in Hermosa Beach .
That night, a couple of us went to the Improv to watch the funiest mother fucker we know, Mike Dunphy do his standup and met up with our boy Rooster. I wasn’t there, so I can’t tell the whole story, but from what I heard, the night involved Mandy Moore, Tyler kicking Bradley in the balls on stage, hanging with Mr. Cooper and a $65 cab ride… good night.
Day 2: First Day of Recording
We left our hotel in Redondo beach and headed out to Sunburst Studios. This place was the shit… really laid back, good vibe, and the main engineer, Bob Wayne was cool as hell. We recorded 5 songs, mostly new ones, and we were all blow away by the sound.
Day 3: Day #2 of Recording
Different studio, new songs. We went to a place called Stagg Street Studios. Everyone there was extremely cool and really knew there stuff. Their client list is ridiculous: Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Dave Mathews, Billy Idol, Pixies, Tori Amos, and the list goes on…
The sound was really good, we recorded a new song and two old ones… New Wings and Where’d You Go. After leaving the studio, we finally got a rental car… a mini-van with no back seats and what looked like blood stains on the carpet. Hey, we were happy with anything at this point.
That night, we played a show at McMurphy’s in Pasadena, Ca. It was a cool place, cool people… actually, Lemmy from Motorhead was there hanging out… he said he liked the show. We had a good time and lots of people came up to us afterward and told us they dug our set.
Day 4: Ed Hardy and Video Shoot
We drove into Hollywood in the morning and went to meet the executives at Ed Hardy. Everyone was cool as hell. They gave us a BUNCH of free stuff and took pictures with us.
Next, we went and met up with the guys at LA Rims and Sound. These guys were the shit… they had a badass shop, a ridiculous list of famous clients, and they were cool enough to hang out with our punkasses. They’re in the middle of making a TV show that they let us watch… it was hilarious!
Anyway, they were cool enough to let us come back and shoot a video at their shop. Stay tuned for some footage.
Day 5: Photoshoot
We went back to hollywood in the morning and hit up Jody Domingue’s Studio (As I Lay Dying, Sevendust, 3 doors down, Slipknot, Finch, Postal Service). Jody and her girls were amazing… completely professional, but laid back at the same time. We had a blast taking the photos and they turned out great… thank you ladies.
After the photo shoot, we headed back to the studio in Hermos. We were stopped in traffic when I looked to the car next to me and saw a badass Mercedes Benz. I looked at the driver and had to do a double take… “Is that… HOLY SHIT IT’S FABIO!!” Mother Fucking FABIO!! We rolled down the windows and gave him the thumbs up, and Fabio gave us the thumbs up back.
That was all for me in California… that night I had to take the Red Eye back to Monroe and work at 8:30 am. The guys stuck around and got to have a good time and finish up some recording. We had a great time and wanna thank everyone for all the help: Kiehl, Octavia, KC, Josh, Rick, Ricky, Amy and Everyone at Ed Hardy, the guys at LA Rims and Sound and Jody Domingue and her girls.
So that’s what’s up. Stay tuned for a whole lot of stuff coming your way.
Once in a great rock n roll moon a band comes along that defies the law of modern type cast musical endeavors. Brotherhood, upbringing, common goals, style, and perseverance, coupled with the love and respect of each members personal and public life, and just being a collective bunch of bad asses, creates an art form that sinks into every soul it touches, and paints a picture of thumb print originality to last forever.
From it’s inception Sweetlake Mafia chose to write its own musical direction. By using a melting pot of early English rock, Southern rock and Blues, American Hard rock, motown, and Heavy Metal, Sweetlake Mafia came out of the shoot glued together by skull crushing, heart stopping, run for your life riff rock, with lyrics that tell the truth, and sometimes stretch it beyond the imagination.
School mates and life long friends, Zach Goynes (guitar and vocals), Bradley “No Fear” Duncan (bass and vocals), Ronald Norman (guitar and vocals), and Tyler Arnold (drums and vocals) and Cody Oliphant aka. Dj Codine (Turntables) , have created a sound and a vibe that is contagious to the modern rocker and rootsy enough for the Fillmore East and West die hards of yester year, where hard rock music was born.
